About the Project

Over the past year, 20 surveys of the records of union Locals, activists, and organizations have been conducted. A research guide based on these surveys is being created and will soon be available on this web site. The project is funded by grants from the Connecticut Humanities Council, the Community Foundation for Greater New Haven, and the Phoebe Foundation. In the upcoming year, 20 more surveys will be conducted and their content added to the research guide. Contingent upon funding, the following are projects we would like to continue or begin:

  • Update the LABOR ALMANAC, based on the new records surveys
  • T ranscribe the 35 oral history interviews recorded in the 1990s, and
make their content available on the web site
  • Process and publicize several new collections
  • Work with teachers to develop a labor history curriculum
  • Create a labor history exhibit
  • Design and produce a pamphlet for a self-guided labor history tour
